Invitation
Dear Colleagues!
We cordially invite you to participate in the Seventh International Symposium "Invasion of Alien Species in Holarctic. Borok-VII" to be held on October 12-16, 2026 in Yaroslavl city, Russia.
International Symposium "INVASION OF ALIEN SPECIES IN HOLARCTIC: BOROK" was first organized 25 years ago and has become regular. In these years, the global problem of biological invasions of alien species is remaining topical for humankind.
The main goals of the Seventh Symposium are:
- Exchange of information on the latest research results concerning biological invasions of alien species into aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems;
- Discussion of issues related to the theory, terminology, and methods of studying the invasion process;
- Exploration of ways to achieve interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of biological invasion research, including approaches and methods involving artificial intelligence;
- Consolidation of efforts for risk assessment, early detection, prevention of the spread, and development of control measures against alien species under conditions of global climate change and anthropogenic impact on nature.
Themes of presentations include the following topics:
I. Spatial and temporal dynamics of biological invasions in the Holarctic: 1) invasions in marine ecosystems; 2) invasions in freshwater ecosystems; 3) invasions in terrestrial ecosystems; 4) paleoinvasions.
II. Genetic and evolutionary aspects of biological invasions.
III. Impacts of Alien Species Invasions on Native Biodiversity, Ecosystem Functioning, and Human Well-Being under Global Climate Change and Anthropogenic Pressure.
IV. New Approaches and Methods for Studying Biological Invasions of Alien Species, Including Deep Learning Models.
V. Intelligent Information Systems for Monitoring Invasion Processes; Mathematical Modeling of Processes Associated with Alien Species Invasions.
It is planned that the program of the Symposium will include “Round Tables” with lectures delivered by leading scientists on the following topics:
- Invasion of alien species into urban areas;
- Social and economic aspects of the processes of biological invasions;
- Management of biological invasions: risk assessment, prevention and control.
